Reversing Type 2 Diabetes Naturally – Muscle Activation Strength Training

Type 2 Diabetes and Muscle Activation

The following is an in depth look at why anyone trying to reverse their type 2 diabetes should be strength training, with an aim to activate and grow muscle tissue.
The muscles in our body our the biggest consumers of sugar and fat. If we don’t use them, they loose their ability to utilize sugar, and burn fat. Basically Insulin resistance starts by the muscles inability to take in anymore glucose in the form of glycogen. This mostly happens because an inactive, or under active muscle, doesn’t ever burn through it’s natural storage of glucose that held in the muscle tissue. This is why someone becomes insulin resistant when they have been sedentary for too long.

Growing more Muscle = Insulin Sensitivity

The more active the muscle is, the bigger and stronger it grows, and the more glucose it can store. The more glucose it can store, the more glucose can be utilized in the muscle and therefore does not hang around the blood stream. Ever had too much Glucose hang around in your blood stream? Chances are you have. And it wasn’t after Cross Fit WOD or a 5k run. It was more than likely after you ate something you shouldn’t have and had done nothing active all day. For the type 2 Diabetic population this can really be useful information. Just 15 minutes a day of resistance training can improve insulin sensitivity, which improves glucose uptake, and will lower your A1c average at the Doctor. One step closer to being off that diabetes medication (that the doctor is saying that you’ll be on the rest of your life!).
