Ketogenic Eating Benefits

Ketogenic Eating: Why is it Healthy?

If you haven’t heard of the topic at hand, Your in for a shocker! People are over doing Carbs! With our country slowly getting sicker and fatter with the Standard American Diet (SAD). Just today (1-7-16) the American Guidelines lowered daily sugar consumption to under 10% of daily calories, because they can see how sugar is killing our country. As time goes on, people are turning to alternative sources of science and medicine to reverse these sickening conditions. Ketogenic Eating Benefits are used  for conditions such as infantile spasms, epilepsy, autism, brain tumors, Alzheimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, depression, stroke, head trauma, Parkinson’s disease, migraine, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety, ADHD, irritability, polycystic ovarian disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux, obesity, cardiovascular disease, acne, type 2 diabetes, tremors, respiratory failure and virtually every neurological problem but also cancer, and conditions where tissues need to recover after a loss of oxygen.

Ketogenic Lifestyle for Weight loss and Longevity

“Carbohydrates are not required to obtain energy. Fat supplies more energy than a comparable amount of carbohydrate, and low-carbohydrate diets tend to make your system of producing energy more efficient. Furthermore, many organs prefer fat for energy.” From Gabriela Segura, MD

The entire body uses ketones in a more safe and effective way than the energy source coming from carbohydrates – sugar AKA glucose. Our bodies will produce ketones if we eat a diet devoid of carbs or a low-carb diet (less than 60 grams of carbs per day).[2] By eating a very low-carb diet or no carbs at all, we become keto-adapted.Ketosis eating

Weight Loss: This process shifts your body from burning glucose and starts to optimize it for mobilizing fat. Mobilizing fat means that your body is converting your triglycerides (stored fat) into glucose for energy. So essentially your training your body to use fat as your primary fuel source. Another way that ketosis eating helps you lose body fat is through insulin regulation. After years of eating high carbohydrate foods your insulin system is out of whack and produces way too much insulin. Hyperinsulinemia is associated with hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, and glucose intolerance. And since insulin is highly regulated by the carbs we consume, than by lowering these carbohydrates on a regular basis, your insulin levels decrease and return to homeostasis. This makes it easier to keep the fat from sticking around.

Inflammation Treatment:If your constantly (eating Carbs) burning glucose than it’s hard for your body to mobilize fat in this manner. Carbohydrates also produce an inflammatory response in moderate to high doses. Ketogenic eating also benefits us by the anti inflammatory properties that actually help decrease joint pain, brain fog, and liver inflammation.

Brain function: The Scientific American wrote an article called “the fat fueled brain”   which goes into detail about what ketosis is, and how it works. Ketones are produced when the body has burned through its ingested carbohydrate sources. These ketones – ?-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), acetoacetate and acetone – are released into the bloodstream, taken up by the brain and other organs, shuttled into the “energy factory” mitochondria and used up as fuel. In fact, BHB (a major ketone) may be an even more efficient fuel than glucose, providing more energy per unit oxygen used. A ketogenic diet also increases the number of mitochondria, so called “energy factories” in brain cells. A recent study found enhanced expression of genes encoding for mitochondrial enzymes and energy metabolism in the hippocampus, a part of the brain important for learning and memory. So let’s get this straight you can lose weight, feel more energy, and preform better mentally!!!!!!!  Sounds like a winner to me!
