Avoid winter weight gain

My Top 4 Tips for Avoiding the Winter Weight Gain

Every year rolls around and we settle into the similar fall and winter groove of laying around inside under a blanket and eating a little too much food, especially when we are laying around!

Well, this year I want folks to wrap their minds around some new concepts for how to handle things differently in the colder seasons with big family meals.

As a Personal Trainer(Fayetteville AR), I’m always trying to Coach my Clients on how to not ruin all the hard work that they have put in by completely derailing over the holidays on High Calorie foods mixed with lot’s of laying around. Over the years I put together these tips to help my clients have a fighting chance.

#1  Get outside!

Despite being colder and more uncomfortable, the winter and the fall months are really beautiful outside. But because people are lazy, they avoid putting on the layers and getting out for a hike, or walk. The more low level movement we create throughout the day, the more we keep our muscles working and the more calories we burn from a faster metabolism. Walking more also has a detoxifying benefit that not many people talk about.

#2 Eat During Day light Hours

The daytime window is shorter during these months, which means less daylight. Daylight is a strong signaler to our Circadian Rhythm which in turn, regulates our metabolism. So in other words, eating after dark is when you are more likely to store energy instead of burn it. This also means that we would naturally fast a bit longer in the winter times in our past. After all you didn’t have modern lighting to prepare food past 5:30pm 150 years ago. People were likely settled in by that point, starting their fasting window.

#3 Find ways to De-Stress Every day

People get stressed this time of the year to say the least. Taxes coming up, Traveling, Quotas, In Laws coming over, you name it, winter brings stress. And stress Brings weight gain. The more time we can carve out to Get Outside, get active, get Massage, or Get Away, than the more we can lower stress hormones that pack on the extra cravings and extra pounds.

#4 Get a Personal Trainer or Fitness Program

It’s Cold, and Outdoor activities have slowed to almost a halt. Now is the perfect time to engage in 8 weeks of Personal Training, or Orange Theory, or Crossfit. Don’t Wait until the new year to play catch up with your Fitness and Nutrition. Plan Ahead now, and cut it off before it has a chance to happen at all. And if you Need a good Personal Trainer in Fayetteville Arkansas, I just so happen to know a good one 🙂

I hope that helps everyone in dealing with this winter weather. If you are struggling to lose weight no matter what you do, or what season it is. Than I suggest sending me an email bout health coaching. I specialize in Weight loss plateaus and fixing broken metabolism’s here in the Bentonville and Fayetteville Areas. After all the things we up against in this modern day chaos that we call life, it’s no surprise that our hormones and guts are screwed up and causing us grief.
